Houston holds Vanderbilt to lowest scoring game, offense also sputters
HOUSTON – Despite holding #9 Vanderbilt's offense to a season-low in runs, the Houston baseball team lost to the Commodores 3-1 on Saturday at Minute Maid Park.
The Commodores (8-3) got an early start in the third inning, via a Matthew Polk a solo home run. Vanderbilt extended the lead to 2-0 in the fifth.
The Cougars (6-4) lone run came on a line drive home run off the bat of center fielder Cameron Nickens in the fifth inning, his first of the season. Nickens' home run grazed off the yellow line on the wall of the Crawford Boxes.
Houston threatened in the seventh after second baseman Harold Coll doubled to put a Cougar in scoring position. A flyout from Nickens moved Harold to third base but the Cougars couldn't capitalize.
